Power Adapter Aging

Time:2025-11-13 Views:0

Aging refers to applying environmental stress to a product using high-temperature methods. Environmental stress screening includes not only high-temperature stress but also many other stresses, such as temperature cycling and random vibration, to test the power adapter.

Why must electronic products undergo 100% aging testing before leaving the factory?

Because during the manufacturing process of electronic products, due to complex processing and the extensive use of components and materials, various defects are introduced (even in the best-designed products). Both manufacturing defects and component defects can be divided into obvious defects and potential defects. Obvious defects refer to those that cause the product to malfunction, such as short circuits/open circuits. Potential defects may allow the product to be used temporarily, but the defect will quickly become apparent during use, causing the product to malfunction. For example, insufficient solder may allow the product to work initially, but even slight vibrations could cause the solder joints to break. Obvious defects can be detected through conventional inspection methods (i.e., ICT: In-Circuit Test, a standard testing method that checks the electrical performance and connections of in-circuit components (components on a manufactured board) to inspect for manufacturing defects and component failures. It mainly checks the open and short circuit conditions of individual in-circuit components and various circuit networks, and is characterized by its simplicity, speed, and accurate fault location; FT, etc.). Potential defects, however, cannot be detected by conventional inspection methods and are eliminated using aging methods. If the aging method is ineffective, the unremoved potential defects will eventually manifest as early failures (or malfunctions) during product operation, leading to increased product rework rates and repair costs.

Performing 100% aging testing on electronic products before they leave the factory can significantly reduce the product defect rate.

In fact, aging has another, even more important purpose (similar to testing): to continuously improve the product manufacturing process and component quality through aging, until aging is no longer necessary. Circuit boards must be tested after aging. If a component is found to be frequently damaged during testing, it indicates that the component has a potential defect and the supplier needs to improve its quality.
